Gene Cernan, the last man on the moon, has died
Cernan’s death was announced by NASA on its website. „We are deeply saddened by the loss of retired NASA astronaut Gene’and Cernan, the last man on the moon” – the announcement read.
Cernan as one of the twoóch astronautów on the Moon landed twice. He also spent the most time on the surface of our satellite. To it belongs róalso a record for staying in lunar orbit.
During the last manned expedition to the Moon in 1972, Cernan and Harrison Schmidt spent 22 hours on the Silver Globe and traveled a distance of more than 30 kilometersów.
After leaving NASA, Cernan took up running his own energy and astronautics business. He was also a frequent invitee to the mediów commentator on space exploration events. He also opined before a Congressional committee on budgets for NASA. In 1999, he published a book „Last man on the moon”.
